Help us stock the Fulton Re-entry Center with 700 books!
The Osborne Association, a wonderful non-profit that serves individuals and families impacted by incarceration, has taken ownership of the Fulton Correctional Facility in the Bronx which closed four years ago. They have been working for the past few years to renovate it and turn it into a community re-entry center that will provide temporary housing and job training to New Yorkers returning from prison. What an incredible sign of redemption! You can read more about the project in this New York Times article from 2015.
They will have a new library that can house 700 books and now they just need the books! Here is a list of books that have already been purchased. There is also a tab with recommendations from the community if you need suggestions and if you purchase one of them, check it off so that we can keep track and avoid duplicates, or just email [email protected] to let us know.
We would love to support black-owned, independent bookstores and two that we're highlighting is The Lit Bar in the Bronx and Uptown Sisters Bookstore in Harlem. Purchased or donated books can be shipped to: Osborne Association, Attn: Michelle Howard, 809 Westchester Ave. Bronx, NY You can also donate funds to go towards the books. Give online and write "Fulton Book Drive" in the memo line.
